Extraction systems for the glass industry

Emissions of hazardous substances can occur during the production and processing of glass, porcelain and ceramics. Exposure to the dust, which is a risk for employees and machines, increases during cutting, sawing, drilling, milling, grinding and engraving. Not only can dusts from ceramic products and glass cause mechanical irritation (micro-injury) to the eyes and skin, but the fine dust and mist are also a risk for the respiratory tract.

How extraction systems are deployed in the glass industry

Gefahr durch Glasstaub und -partikel

Glasstaub gilt als besonders abrasiv und ruft bei Verschmutzen der Produktionsanlage große Qualitätsprobleme hervor. Eine mangelhafte Arbeitshygiene birgt außerdem die Gefahr der Aufnahme über den Mund und Verdauungsapparat. Glaspartikel- und schleifmittelhaltige Stäube und Nebel können in die Lunge gelangen und eine Reizung der Atemwege oder in extremen Fällen sogar die Gefahr einer Staublunge hervorrufen.

Bei der Erwärmung auf Temperaturen oberhalb des Schmelzpunktes können brennbare und toxische Gase entstehen. 

Maßnahmen bei der Arbeit mit Glas

Liegt die Glasstaub- oder Glaspartikelmenge über dem nationalen Grenzwert, muss spätestens reagiert werden. Folgende Maßnahmen sind bei der Berabeitung von Glas unbedingt zu treffen:

  • Belüftung von Arbeitshallen unter Vermeidung von Zuglufterscheinungen
  • Lokale Absaugung und Filtrierung, möglichst direkt an der Entstehungsstelle
  • Abschirmung zur Verringerung der Nebelbildung/Aerosolbelastung am Arbeitsplatz
  • Kapselung/geschlossene Anlage bei Strahlarbeiten
  • konsequente Arbeitshygiene
